Profile:
I grew up on a tree farm 20 minutes outside the town of Longview, Washington. After graduating from Mark Morris High School, I entered the University of Washington in Seattle, where I declared as a classical guitar major. At the beginning of my junior year I decided my future didn’t lie in a performance career, and I am now pursuing degrees in Philosophy, English, and Neurobiology. I hope to graduate in the spring of 2009, the end of my fifth year. Building off my experience with research as an undergraduate, I am hoping to research treatments that regenerate the central nervous system after damage. At Cambridge I will study the regeneration of the spinal cord, with the goal of reversing paralysis due to injury. At the moment I see this leading me to a career as a research scientist, perhaps for a biotech company, or to law school with a focus on research policy. I enjoy the outdoors, independent music, and playing classical and electric guitar. My favorite authors are Hemingway and Coetzee.
