Profile:

Through my undergraduate research at the University of California Davis, I have developed an interest in elucidating the molecular basis of disease. Discoveries from biomedical research will help us control the many devastating diseases in our society, and I plan on pursuing a career that seeks to characterize the biological causes of illnesses in order to develop effective therapeutics. My PhD will focus on the implications of intrauterine and post-natal nutrition on diseases that manifest later in life. This includes examining the molecular mechanisms by which early nutrition can lead to alterations in insulin sensitivity and antioxidant capacity. Such studies will benefit our understanding of illnesses such as type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease. I enjoy volunteering with the UC Davis chapters of the Golden Key Club and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, distance running, soccer, and equestrian sports. I also love the outdoors, and I am always eager to go hiking or spend a weekend camping.
