The Gates Cambridge Scholarships

New Scholars 2009

Gates Cambridge Scholarships awarded to American students, February 2009

Following interviews held in Annapolis, MD on 6 and 7 February 2009, the Gates Cambridge Trust has awarded 37 Gates Cambridge Scholarships to American students to pursue Masters or PhD degrees at the University of Cambridge from October 2009.

Short biographies and photos of the successful candidates are available below.

For the October 2009 entry, 752 students from the United States applied for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and 101 were shortlisted and attended interview.

The interviews were held at St John’s College and the United States Naval Academy. The Trust is grateful to the President and Staff of St John’s College and to the Superintendent and Staff of the United States Naval Academy for the use of their excellent facilities and for the invaluable support they give the Trust to enable the interviews to be held so efficiently.

The Trust also greatly appreciates the work of those who served on the interview panels.

An article about the new US scholars is available from the University's news page.

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme is international in scope: the Trust awards scholarships to candidates from any country outside the United Kingdom. A further round of interviews for candidates from countries other than the USA will be held in mid-April 2009 to select the remaining number of Gates Cambridge Scholars for the October 2009 entry.
